I was at the arboretum on tues and loved every minute. The view is breathtaking. I have toi say that some of the examples in the collection aren’t up to snuff. The broom style being one of them. I also heard comment about the overhead steelwork being intrusive. I don’t know how those people would think the collection could be kept secure if not for the fact that the area can be locked up. I love the venue but the collection itself leaves a bit to be desired. What do you think?

I thought that it was great to see a range of species, styles and taste on display. There are always going to be trees that some people are drawn to while others ignore/ overlook them. I guess that is the beauty of bonsai’s variation.
I think that the venue is excellent and the collection has laid the foundations of a world class collection. I think it has a bright future. What a fantastic facility for Australian bonsai!

I’d like to see more clubs involved too. Clubs are what keep the art alive. It seems that the ACT club supplies all the volunteers and much of the care.

I believe that most of Australia’s clubs have been involved one way or another and the collection is always looking for volunteers. I think that geography dictates the percentage of Canberra club volunteers rather than any sort of favoritism. If you are interested in volunteering i would suggest you contact the curator.

Indeed. Canberra is a little out of the way.Not suggesting favourtism though, it was merely an observation. How have the clubs outside canberra been involved? I didn’t see much evidence of it. none the less it’s a wonderful place.

There have been representatives from each state who have sourced bonsai and kept clubs updated with the going ons of the collection.
